"Abstract"
We received the new CD from Jay J. Palermo, entitled "Abstract". An eclectic collections that incorporates flashes of industrial, progressive, acoustic, dance and pop rock, and certainly lives up to its title. Formerly of popular local band Typhoid Mary, Palermo has studied jazz and classical guitar, and has enjoyed a brief stint with Rochester Industrial group Bitter Flesh thing. His extremely varied musical experiences translate expertly into the CD, His third solo effort overall, managing to sound surprisingly cohesive. “ Abstract”
The innovative and creative edge is what most guitar players strive for, while others strive for creating the best sound and mix possible. Palermo's newest release "abstract" on loophole records has it all from guitar styles of such artists like Richie Sambora and Bon Jovi, to the twisted rhythms in the likes of Trent Reznor, to the psychedelic "wah" sounds of the great recordings of Issac Hayes, and the legendary George Clinton and Parliment Funk.T
This sophomore release has it all. A lot of the songs on The Infamous go back to Palermo’s seven-song demo Lost Faith released in 96, with shimmering choruses and perfectly orchestrated solos. Following in the footsteps of Lenny Kravitz and Mathew Sweet, Palermo played all of the instruments, and recorded all of the vocals as well, including the backups. He did have a little from guest vocalist Danny Styles, (Sly Roxx) on Time, and had Anthony Errigo lay down the driving bass tracks on What U Want.
Produced and recorded at Loophole Records (Palermo’s studio), this release has a lot of potential to climb the charts. Looking at some of the songs, What U Want, is a mix of classic style guitar for the rhythms with both six and twelve string with a subtle mix of electric guitar for the solos and leads - classic. Hook is exactly what this song is made of. This track will defiantly make you reminisce of watching Shaft, or doing the hustle back in the 70’s, if you were around back then. The end of the track kicks in with some heavy/ bass driven distortedness that will quickly bring you back to 2004. Mourning After, Forever, and Time, are three tracks that have that 90’s rock/metal feel to them like Queensryche, heavy guitars, with a little medeivilish orchestration behind them, and killer harmonies. Rein Dance has all the twisted mayhem qualities of production from those similar to Nine Inch Nails.
Jay J. Palermo put forth great effort and time into the production of Abstract, and should be proud of his accomplishments. Abstract is a must for everyone’s CD collection, whether it is for the great production value, or for the talented musicianship, or just for your simple listening pleasure. I for one am glad it’s in my collection

"Out of me in to you"
A man whose musical pedigree speaks for itself, guitarist/singer/ songwriter jay j Palermo, has played with groups like Parris, jaded heart, Nik and the nice guys and typhoid Mary, and now has ventured into solo territory for the second time with his new cd, out of me in to you. a mostly slow paced, ballad oriented album. Palermo goes down deep into the soul to produce some heartfelt songs. also interspersed throughout are some dance-flavored numbers that accentuate his musical range.

Typhoid Mary
Another band who has taken a giant step forward is Typhoid Mary. their new self- titled cd, on Loophle Records, was also recorded at Dajhelon studios. i simply fell for the track, "verge" it's a cool song with very good time changes , great guitar work and, overall, is a creative piece of work. to my ears, it's reminiscent to that of early Queensryche. vocal harmonies are showcased on " vision of light" and "resolution of fate," with both songs also encompassing searing guitar solos. "triple Syzygy" has a little bit of a fuller sound, not as (for a lack of a better word) "metal-ish" as the others. clean precise vocals and excellent drumming push this cd "must have local collection" category check out disc jockey records and the house of guitars. Typhoid Mary has grown great lengths musically since their debut show. and it shows! progression is a great thing.

Typhoid Mary "Vision's of Light" EP
At first glance, the hard rock fans' s typical response to Typhoid Mary may be that a band of this type has come and gone, but Typhoid Mary has been able to construct a sound and songwriting style that go beyond the influences and styles that the band has melded together.
Rather than jump flippantly onto a grunge bandwagon or thrash about full-bore in an exercise of speed without substance, Typhoid Mary mix the technical proficiency with of Racer X/Paul Gilbert "Instrumental" style with a lyrical nuance all their own.
WIth a bulk of the songwriting responsibility heaped on the shoulders of guitarist Jay J. Palermo, obvious comparisons to dictator axeman Richie Blackmore or Yngwie Malmsteen are easily arrived at. Typhoid Mary is clearly a group effort, with vocalist Jeff Brandt posting up words on "Verge", and drummer Marc Baglin supplying lyrics and music on one track.
The Inclusion of a fourth song on the CD, the send-you-to-your-websters dictionary "Triple Syzygy" is a leap of faith for the band, having been written in the studio after the band was together only 2 months. That confidence in the band's art is evident after only one listen to the CD.
Typhoid Mary has escaped the boundaries of the inevitable "Rochester Sound" whatever unsuccessful sound that may be, and have carved a musical niche all their own. They should surely thrive.

Since their formation in august 1993. Typhoid Mary has begun to spread like a disease. Their infectious and aggressive music style has been compared to a hybrid of Dream Theatre and Racer X or of Queensryche and Crimson Glory, with originality all their own. After only six shows including the MCC benefit, Typhoid Mary has earned headline status. Their demo Cd has received thumbs up from local critics and is selling well.
